Re: When was the book of Daniel written?

Dear Rolf: You are right when you say that atheism is not a religion in the full sense of the word. But it is a motivating force that may be just as strong, and work in the same way as a religious force; it motivates, or rather induces bias into the atheist exactly the same way that religion induces...

Re: When was the book of Daniel written?

Where did you learn English? I can understand your answer if you are a non-native speaker of English. The modern English term “religion” is defined so broadly that it includes atheism as religion. This is a linguistic answer, not an answer based on opinion. If you have problems understanding what I...

Re: When was the book of Daniel written?

I take the word to restore and to build Jerusalem as Cyrus' command (Isa 44:28). I know it does not fit the secular chronology. The Messiah is cut off 69 weeks after the command. So if Jesus' crucifixion was in 30 AD then 483 years prior would be 454 BC for Cyrus' command. Where does it say that Me...

Re: When was the book of Daniel written?

Your answer goes against linguistic and philosophic practice. Atheism is a religion according to those two. The modern English term “philosophy” is a synonym for “religion”. There are atheistic religions. Based on modern English usage, it’s illogical to claim that atheism is not a religion. My answ...

Re: When was the book of Daniel written?

I want to take issue with one thing, Rolf. atheism is also a religious view Atheism is a religious view in the same way watching from the stands is a position on the baseball field. I would agree that it is a philosophical position in response to one single question , a question which does determin...

Re: When was the book of Daniel written?

Dear Karl, How long did that gap last between Cyrus’ second year and about 417 BC the beginning of the 490 years? The official Persian chronology was destroyed by Alexander the Great. Egyptian records are garbage. How many of the business records can be interpreted in more than one way, making reco...

Re: When was the book of Daniel written?

Dear Karl, Which brings up an interesting question, whose dates do we choose to follow, your dates or Biblical dates? Biblical chronology starts when Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden, and can be computed to the second year of Cyrus of Persia when Daniel retired. After that there’s...

Re: When was the book of Daniel written?

Sixty-nine of the 70 weeks would last until Messiah the leader (9:25). One problem that has destroyed many good attempts to calculate the 69 weeks, is the use of an erroneous chronology. How about an erroneous interpretation? In that prophecy we have three chronologies—49 years, between 434–441 yea...

Re: בְּרֵאשִׁית בָּרָא אֱלֹהִים

Correction: In Genesis 3:5 the construct chain in question actually starts with ביום אכלכם ממנו. That is, "in-day-of eating-of-you" (in the day of your eating = "when you eat"). The same is בראשית ברא אלהים. That is, "in-beginning-of creating-of God" (in the beginning ...
