Re: Psalm 139:13

Thanks Karl. Is that understanding of the yiqtol widely accepted? Nope. But neither is it widely accepted that in order to know Biblical Hebrew language, one must read Tanakh cover-to-cover, over and over again. It’s my understanding that the late Dr. Diethelm Michael understood the grammar similar...

Re: Psalm 139:13

2) the second question, NO, it is not imperfect. It’s indicative, but an indicative that indicates a continuation of the main thought. I call that a “secondary indicative”. As we have discussed earlier, Biblical Hebrew conjugates for neither tense nor aspect. As such, Biblical Hebrew has neither pe...

Re: Psalm 139:13

In answer to your two questions: 1) The verb תסכני cannot come from סכן because it lacks a double nun that it would need if from סכן. I checked DSS and found a spelling indicating that the word comes from סוך. The idea here is that God has possession of the inward parts (exemplified by kidneys), and...

Re: Zechariah 13:7

The word עמית is used only 12 times in Tanakh, 11 of which are in the book of Leviticus. In those uses, it refers to fellow Israelites, of one’s people as opposed to those from other peoples.

Re: refining metals in ancient Near East

Gold, in ancient times as well as often today, if found as nuggets or visible “dust” where all that’s needed is physically to separate the gold from the ore. That does not require special refining. Copper too was found as nuggets where all that was required was physical separation. It’s still found ...

Re: Genesis 1.1

When were the angels created? If we take the pagan myths as a clue, it was after the creation of the earth itself. All the pagan myths that I’ve heard mention a pre-existing earth that was a watery chaos. From that clue, the creation of the angels could be as late as the beginning of the second day....

Re: Genesis 1.1

Dear Kenneth Greifer: Your arguments don’t hold water. I disagree with Steve here. In Numbers 6:24-26, G-d is telling the priests a prayer to say to the people, so it just sounds like He is talking about someone else. It is יהוה who gave the command to the priests to bless the people, that יהוה is t...

Psalm 139:3 אָרְחִ֣י וְרִבְעִ֣י זֵרִ֑יתָ וְֽכָל־דְּרָכַ֥י הִסְכַּֽנְתָּה׃ …The verbs ‎ זרה , translated "search out", and ‎ סכן , translated "are acquainted with", never seem to have those meanings. How would you translate the above 2 verbs in this verse? thanks. The verb זרה ha...

Re: Jackal or dragon?

In Isaiah 34:13 the word תנים (a plural word) means "jackals" or "dragons" or what? The word in Genesis 1:21 is spelled תנין for some reason. I think this is a singular word, although in Genesis 1:21, it is in the plural form. Are these two different words? Does it mean "ja...

Re: Genesis 1.1

Karl, Could you share your list of verses that show that God is triune. I would like to keep them for reference. thanks. Sorry, Steve, but I don’t have a list. I hadn’t thought of making a list. There aren’t many passages that list all three of the persons of the Trinity in one place. The most famo...
