Re: קָדוֹשׁ Leviticus 19:2

I prefer to use language in communication with comprehensible input (see Stephen Krashen ). Grammar explanations are only used to fill in blanks. Seeing that you don't see what goes on in our sessions but only fill-in-the-blank materials that I add for explanation after-the-fact, I don't think that ...

Re: קָדוֹשׁ Leviticus 19:2

Will a discussion of "prophetic perfect" help us better understand the Classical Hebrew as a real language? What is your opinion regarding "prophetic perfect? I imagine that a discussion of any feature of biblical Hebrew that can be exhibited in the text should be useful. The book of...

Re: Subforum for teaching & learning Hebrew (pedagogy)?

Would it be helpful to add a subforum to focus on the pedagogy of learning Hebrew as a real language? I know, Jason, that you have established a website/forum for this purpose, but would it help with discussion, do you think? One real tangible difference is that my own forum is devoted most directl...

Re: קָדוֹשׁ Leviticus 19:2

Yes, as I stated above, I'm aware that you have a self-published book out there. It is not my responsibility to knock down the claims of idiosyncratic theorists. Your approach to Hebrew is nearly akin to how conspiracy theories approach reality. It is not the responsibility of those who do not buy w...

Re: קָדוֹשׁ Leviticus 19:2

Searching, I find that you have already created a print-on-demand book that you've put up for purchase on Amazon.com . I'd think that the best option for continuing would be to create a blog that is connected to the book. You could use it to keep everything organized, to add errata sections, to have...

Re: קָדוֹשׁ Leviticus 19:2

It is also possible that מִקְדָש = מי-קדש is merely a heaped structure. In English too, "temple", מִקְדָש , may be related to "tomb", 'a mound', Hebrew במה BAMAH. So, in your system, מִקְדָּשׁ means the same as תֵּל and קֶ֫בֶר and בָּמָה ? I just don't understand how your system...

Re: קָדוֹשׁ Leviticus 19:2

So what is "holy"? Is it subjective? Isaac Fried, Boston University Are you now asking about the concept associated with the Hebrew קדוש or with the English holy ? I thought you made distinctions between such things. I also don't know what you mean by subjective . A word's meaning is dete...

Re: קָדוֹשׁ Leviticus 19:2

Suggesting that 'holy' actually descends from 'whole' or 'heal' comes closer to what we are looking for: the preliterate meaning of this root. No offense intended, but I think you’re assuming a lot when you say that we are looking for a pre-literate meaning of a root. It seems to me that this is wh...

Re: Isaiah 5:8–9 בתים “housing”?

(1) I don't see where you've touched on the meaning of לשמה at all there. (2) רבים seems more likely to be modifying בתים ("many houses"). (3) We would expect the pattern to be piel or hiphil on the root בי״ת (if we were trying to come up with something like this). That is, biyut or havata...
