Re: YHWH Elohim - translation as YHWH the powerful? or YHWH the power?

In the vast majority of cases, "Yahweh God" is the appropriate translation of YHWH Elohim in English. (Yes, I realize that some disagree about the correct vowels for YHWH.) Note that "Jehovah" is an artificial construct never used by the Jews in ancient times. And, LORD is a subs...

Κenneth, do you happen to recall the names of any of these authors or titles of the books or articles? Did you find them online?

Re: 1 Kings 10:22 - Carthage & Monkeys

No one but you claimed the Jews were illiterate and had no language prior to settling in Canaan. Probably they spoke Aramaic or Akkadian before Abraham migrated. Once they adopted Hebrew there, they continued to speak it from then on. As for the original homeland, we know where it was, Ur in Chaldea...

Re: 1 Kings 10:22 - Carthage & Monkeys

I don't know why I'm bothering, but I'll respond to your latest post. I don't know where you live, Lee, but most American schools do not teach anything about the Bible or its historical backgrounds these days. I know this both from going thru the system myself as a student, and from teaching in publ...

Re: 1 Kings 10:22 - Carthage & Monkeys

There was no antisemitism in ancient times. You yourself say that Antiochus Epiphanes persecuted the Jews. Did he do this because he loved them? If ancient Jews are not native to Canaan then they are emigrants from elsewhere, probably the Mediterranean. They are not native to Canaan: see Genesis an...

Re: 1 Kings 10:22 - Carthage & Monkeys

Ancient Jews are Greeks ( not Americans) The "not Americans" part is correct. Not the "Ancient Jews are Greeks" part. If this were true, why was there so much antisemitism in the ancient world against Jews, when the Greek language and philosophy were widely admired? It doesn't a...

Re: 1 Kings 10:22 - Carthage & Monkeys

As for your claim about Hezekiah being a fourth-century BC ruler, again you need to see data from archaeology. The annals of the Assyrian king Sennacherib, from c. 690 B.C., reference his attacks on Samaria (722 B.C.) and Judean cities, including Jerusalem, in 701 B.C. The Assyrian texts describe He...

Re: 1 Kings 10:22 - Carthage & Monkeys

David & Solomon belong too the mythological realm and Israeli scholars admit they are fictitious. Which scholars? And there is a difference between admitting and claiming. As for David, you need to read about the Tel Dan Inscription, which references David's dynasty as historical. By implicatio...

Re: Mycenaean Hebrew

You make the common mistake of believing the Bible's historical records are wrong until proven right. An assumption never made about extra-biblical historical sources, even those that invoke or pay homage to the deities of those peoples. That is not fair nor is it logical, as time and time again arc...
