Re: sabbath in Exodus 31:13 and Ezekiel 20:20
How can שבתתי be read as singular when there are two ת? This is simply a variation in spelling which is common and well documented.

Re: Audio for Genesis 1 and Jonah 1
Hi Zadok, Yes, Jonah 1 is recorded in Living Biblical Hebrew: Introduction Part One (א), and Genesis 1 is recorded in Living Biblical Hebrew: Selected Readings with 500 Friends (ג). These are both excellent products for internalizing biblical Hebrew. (And no, I have no affiliation with the BLC, just...

Re: Variation on phrase from Ecclesiastes
For modern, I would venture to say it would be אף אחד לא יודע שום דבר af eHad lo yodea` shum davar. I'm thinking מאומה me'uma there may be more formal than שום דבר in modern. But אף אחד is the modern idiom for nobody, no one . For biblical Hebrew, I would say one way to word it might be לא ידע איש מ...

Please tell me that the archives aren't offline permanently. I'm seeing an error message when I try to access archived pages that used to work fine before. Are they gone?

Re: What was created on day one?
I read it as God created "day." He creates or 'light', yes, but what does he call this light? Answer: yom 'day'. So, what is it? Day. Therefore, on Day 1 he creates a period of light and calls it "day." He also creates a period of darkness and calls it "night."

Re: Etymology of הָלַךְ
Etymology Question. In parsing out הָלַךְ , I noticed that it is somehow related to another root, יָלַךְ . Does anyone have an idea how these two roots are related? Mahlon, Yes, the qatal and participle are from a root ה-ל-כ , while the yiqtol, infinitive, and imperative are from a root י-ל-כ . I d...

Re: Biblical Language Center
Hi Karl, Yes, the BLC teaches biblical Hebrew and not modern Hebrew. I am internalizing both, and I can tell you firsthand that it is not modern. It is biblical. I think you would benefit from purchasing a copy of books ב and ג to see for yourself. You will find them on the Products page. There are ...
