Re: translation of Daniel 9:26

Rolf, I have heard people say something that there is a indefinite period of time that is not mentioned in the prophecy after the 69 weeks or in the middle of the 70th week. I don't know if it is based on a religious belief or the Hebrew of Daniel 9. Some of them say that is based on the Hebrew, bu...

Re: Job 40:19b behemoth

חָרְבּוֹ may refer also to the beast's horn. Could be. Or a tusk like dugongs have. In 2Sam. 17:29 we read וּדְבַשׁ וְחֶמְאָה וְצֹאן וּשְׁפוֹת בָּקָר הִגִּישׁוּ לְדָוִד וְלָעָם אֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ לֶאֱכוֹל where הִגִּישׁוּ = היא-ג-היא-ש-הוּא is not merely 'brought near', but actually 'gave, presented'. T...

Re: Genesis 2:16

Thanks (@ Steve Miller) for your comments on the post I've sent. The fact you reply me comforts me, because this indicates my English was enough clear to express what I want to tell. You're very welcome, Saro, and thank you for your posts. I hope to hear more from you on this discussion list. In En...

Re: Job 40:19b behemoth

Let’s take the assumption that God created the universe less than 10,000 years ago, what would we expect to find? • Dinosaurs were created at the same time as mankind Job 40:15 • That there would be historical references to dinosaurs, albeit under different names. • That there would be ancient stat...

Re: Job 40:19b behemoth

Seems to me that הָעֹשׂוֹ יַגֵּשׁ חַרְבּוֹ means that the creator, הָעֹשׂוֹ , of the big beast, the behemoth בְּהֵמוֹת , endowed, יַגֵּשׁ , him, namely the בְּהֵמוֹת , with his (the בְּהֵמוֹת ) means, חַרְבּוֹ , of violence and destruction. In short, God made the behemoth fearsome upon creation. It...

Re: Job 40:19b behemoth

Simply, that חרב ('sword') becomes כרב ('cherub')! Than, what was - probably - the 'original' reading of the passage? הוא ראשׁית דרכי־אל העשׂו [כי] יגשׁ כרבים " It (is the) beginning of God's ways, realized so cherubs may draw near to it ". This matches quite perfectly with the LXX readin...

Re: Genesis 2:16

Saro, This is an excellent subject that would be very helpful to solve and you have used good logic, but you need more data (examples in the text). When the verb is to die, it does appear correct that the infinitive absolute adds certainty because you have included many examples. What about for othe...

Re: cn I relly red wtht a vwl?

Ancient Hebrew has spaces between the words.
DSS even has extra space between the verses.

Re: translation of Daniel 9:26

Thanks Rolf,
You are translating the hiphil of ‎ גבר as "let prevail" instead of "cause to prevail".
Can that be supported by other hiphil examples in the Tanach?

Thanks Jonathan. Why the hey at the end of the word instead of an aleph?
