Re: Gen 6:19 et = "with" or direct obj ptr

Psalm 34:4 את י "With me" (cf. עמ י ) Thanks very much, Lee. This is exactly the kind of example I was looking for. ‎ WTT Psalm 34:4 גַּדְּל֣וּ לַיהוָ֣ה אִתִּ֑י וּנְרוֹמְמָ֖ה שְׁמ֣וֹ יַחְדָּֽו׃ DBY Psalm 34:3 Magnify Jehovah with me , and let us exalt his name together The verb here, piel...

Re: Gen 6:19 et = "with" or direct obj ptr

Thanks Lee.

With an intransitive verb as in Gen 5:22 & Exo 1:1, or with no verb, et means "with".
Does it ever mean "with" when connected to a transitive verb?

Gen 6:19 et = "with" or direct obj ptr

Friends, ‎ WTT Genesis 6:19 וּמִכָּל־הָ֠חַי מִֽכָּל־בָּשָׂ֞ר שְׁנַ֧יִם מִכֹּ֛ל תָּבִ֥יא אֶל־הַתֵּבָ֖ה לְהַחֲיֹ֣ת אִתָּ֑ךְ זָכָ֥ר וּנְקֵבָ֖ה יִֽהְיֽוּ׃ All translations that I have seen translate the אִתָּ֑ךְ as "with you" and add "them" as a direct object not in the text as in: D...

Re: Isa 9:3(4) DSS

thanks very much, Karl If when analyzing a verse a certain theory doesn’t make sense, then try again with a different theory. In this case, the theory is that the word in question is a verb. Is that accurate? I would think the 2 et's at the beginning of the verse demand a verb for them to be the dir...

Re: 1 Kings 19, 12

I have been studying Psalm 65, and this discussion about 1Ki 19:12 came to mind. ‎Psalm 65:2(1) לְךָ֤ דֻֽמִיָּ֬ה תְהִלָּ֓ה אֱלֹ֨הִ֥ים בְּצִיּ֑וֹן וּ֜לְךָ֗ יְשֻׁלַּם־נֶֽדֶר׃ To You silence, praise belong, O God in Zion, and to You shall men pay a vow. The word here דֻֽמִיָּ֬ה is a different word than...

Re: Is this analysis of Isaiah 9:6 a legitimate one?

In addition to what Dewayne shared, here is one place with 2 names, that uses "name" singular: Gen 31:48b ‎ עַל־כֵּ֥ן קָרָֽא־שְׁמ֖וֹ גַּלְעֵֽד 49 וְהַמִּצְפָּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמַ֔ר יִ֥צֶף יְהוָ֖ה בֵּינִ֣י וּבֵינֶ֑ךָ כִּ֥י נִסָּתֵ֖ר אִ֥ישׁ מֵרֵעֵֽהוּ׃ Gen 31:48b Therefore was the name of it call...

Re: Is this analysis of Isaiah 9:6 a legitimate one?

Thanks Kirk! Or maybe I misunderstood Hengstenberg. Here is his exact quote: "The Jewish interpreters, despairing of being able, with any appearance of truth, to apply the following attributes to Hezekiah, insist that, with the exception of the last, they denote Him who calls, not Him who is ca...

Re: Is this analysis of Isaiah 9:6 a legitimate one?

You're welcome, Tian. You may be able to answer my question below. All, I have another question on this subject. E. W. Hengstenberg, in Christology of the OT , mentions, as an aside, that to make the names "Wonder","Counselor", etc. the subject of the verb "called" is i...

Re: Isa 9:3(4) DSS

Karl, Thanks very much. BibleWorks parses the verb as hiphil 2ms perfect of ‎חתת, which would be החתות. Both MT and DSS have the shorter spelling without the waw, which is unusual for DSS, but not too unusual. In this same verse, both MT and DSS have the shorter spelling of הַנֹּגֵ֣שׂ without the wa...
