refining metals in ancient Near East

I was trying to read about how metals like gold and silver were refined in the ancient Near East. If someone understand this subject, I would like to know if they used something called potash or potassium nitrate as part of the process to do this. If you answer me, please answer like you were explai...

Re: Genesis 1.1

Karl, About Numbers 22:31, it only says he bowed to the angel, and many people bowed to other people in the Bible and it didn't have to mean "worship." I can't list lots of quotes with examples right now. Also, honestly, I am not sure that I understand some of your arguments about the diff...

Re: Genesis 1.1

Steve, I can't answer you right now, but in case I can in the near future, I need to know when you think the Bible says the angels were created, if it actually tells that someplace. Each quote you pointed out is complicated in different ways, and I know that I would have to deal with many details fo...

Re: Genesis 1.1

Karl, In Numbers 6:24-26, G-d is telling the priests a prayer to say to the people, so it just sounds like He is talking about someone else. In Isaiah 48:12-16, I think G-d talks about Himself and then Isaiah says G-d is sending him and G-d's spirit which is usually on prophets. The angel of G-d is ...

Jackal or dragon?

In Isaiah 34:13 the word תנים (a plural word) means "jackals" or "dragons" or what? The word in Genesis 1:21 is spelled תנין for some reason. I think this is a singular word, although in Genesis 1:21, it is in the plural form. Are these two different words? Does it mean "jac...

Re: Hard to explain question about a verb ending

Karl,

I saw it somewhere once, but I don't know where. I was hoping you or someone else on B-Hebrew would know more about this. I thought maybe it was just a freak occurrence in that one quote.

Hard to explain question about a verb ending

I know that people don't like you to say "future tense" about Biblical Hebrew, but this is the only way I know how to ask this question. I read a quote somewhere, but I am not sure where it was,and it had a future tense verb with the ending נה for "her" or "it" (the obj...

Re: Genesis 18:3 "from upon"

I just realized that Exodus 18:13 says the people "stood on" Moses, so I guess "on" can mean next to also, so "from upon" מעל can mean "from next to" in Genesis 18:3.
