Re: What is the difference between Adonai with kamatz on nun, vs patah on nun?

Thanks. I am a bit clearer now. But you suggest that אֲדֹנַי can be singular. Where and Why would אֲדֹנַי be singular "my lord"? I'd have thought it'd always be my lords 'cos singular 'my lord' would be adonee.

I understand אֲדֹנָי is The Lord, but is it always YHWH?

What is the difference between Adonai with kamatz on nun, vs patah on nun?

What is the difference between Adonai with kamatz on nun, vs patah on nun? It seems that Adonai with a patach on the nun is is a plural noun masters.. Adoni with a hirik on nun is my master.. But i've heard that Adonai with a kamatz on the nun is a completely different thing, and is a name of God. I...

Re: YHWH Elohim - translation as YHWH the powerful? or YHWH the power?

@kwrandolph re "personal name that is in construct", i'm not sure what you mean by "personal name".. and thus what you'd count as a personal name.. Certainly YHWH would count as a personal name.. But i'm not sure if you'd count YHWH Tzevaot as a personal name? And grammatically w...

Re: YHWH Elohim - translation as YHWH the powerful? or YHWH the power?

@kwrandolph

What might a proper noun in the construct look like?

Also, putting aside proper nouns, just looking at common nouns, do we have many cases of a noun followed by a noun, where the first isn't in the construct?

Thanks

I'm wondering if/how we can know that YHWH is not in the construct?

Also are there many cases where we have two nouns and we don't translate them with "of" in between?

Re: YHWH Elohim - translation as YHWH the powerful? or YHWH the power?

@talmud yes I know that i'm not asking about that. @kwrandolph You say that YHWH is not in the construct. How do we know that YHWH is not in the construct? How does a proper noun / name, change, when in the construct? I guess you might agree the second noun wouldn't change? I can't see how you know/...

YHWH Elohim - translation as YHWH the powerful? or YHWH the power?

Hi I understand that Elohim has some variety to its meaning.. Can YHWH Elohim he translated as YHWH of the powers? YHWH of the powerful? YHWH the powerful YHWH of the spiritual beings? Re: is yashku really a hiphil imperfect? I see no yud or hirik!

Yes the Pathak in the prefix is the tell. It's a weak verb (Final hey) that's why there's no hirik. The causative is not only common, it fits the context. Notice Jacob removes the stone and Waters the docks himself. Ah, thanks yes you're right, re context and grammar. I see all examples of a hiphil...
