The usual translation of Isa. 53:5 is "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities" (NIV). I am unable, however, to find any instance in the Hebrew Bible of min (inseparable מְ twice in this case) carrying that kind of force. בְּ would work fine to mean som...

Who turns whose face in Isa. 53:3?

Isa. 53:3 contains the phrase וּכְמַסְתֵּר פָּנִים מִמֶּנּוּ I would have expected min to denote the party from whom faces are turned, making it "from us." 2 Chron. 30:9 has וְלֹא־יָסִיר פָּנִים מִכֶּם אִם־תָּשׁוּבוּ אֵלָֽיו "And he will not turn his face (idiomatic pl.) from you if y...
