Re: Psalm 22:16 DSS 4QPsf

In short, and to be brutally honest, I don’t see how the editor of the scrolls made the determination that this is of Psalm 22. Just in case any readers interpret Karl's comment to mean that the editor was overconfident in this identification: It does take a bit of training, but it's not terribly d...

Re: Qatal vs Wayyiqtol in Judges 18:17

I agree that the choice of qatal rather than wayyiqtol is hard to explain. It's not what I would have expected. I don't normally appeal to multiple sources to resolve grammatical difficulties unless there's no better explanation. Came thither, took the pesel and the ephōd and the teraphīm and the ma...

Could you provide examples of standard grammars that claim the conjugations refer to tense?

Re: Interrogatives

A question, even when genuine, can be indicated, as in many languages, merely by the rising intonation(1): 1Kg 1.24 אַתָּה אָמַ֫רְתָּ have you ordered?; 2Kg 9.11 אַתֶּם יְדַעְתֶּם do you know? (where the’ interrogative sense is not widely recognised). Sometimes it is the word order which gives a fu...

The RSV here depends on not on the Hebrew but on the LXX, which says he gave Anna one portion although he loved her.
