For many years I've had the notion that Selah means roughly the same thing as "Chorus" in song lyrics. I've been reading the psalms in Hebrew as a daily practice, and this time through I've been looking specifically at whether it is plausible that when Selah occurs it means, "Repeat the first verse here." Obviously "the first verse" does not include the ascription and/or explanation of the supposed context of the composition and/or the tune/genre words (e.g. "Of David," "When Saul sent Doeg the Edomite...," "A miktam," "To 'The Lillies'"). I've gotten to Psalm 60 and it seems to make great sense so far.

Do any of you have evidence for or against this idea? Does it appear as an option in the introductions to commentaries on the Psalms?
