Modern consensus on the paseq?

Neither J/M or GKC have much to say on the paseq. I found the evidence in James Kennedy's The Note-Line in the Hebrew Scriptures Commonly Called Pāsēq, or Pěsîq to be convincing from the large body of evidence examined. My take from Kennedy is that the paseq (or note-line) is roughly analogous to the Latin sic. Do others here find Kennedy convincing?
It seems odd that a modern study has not been made of the paseq. Or am I missing something?
Thanks!
