Seems to me that הִגִּיד = היא-ג-היא-ד HIGIYD it tainted by the confrontational flavor of נֶגֶד, NEGED, 'opposite, against'. See Gen. 3:11
וַיֹּאמֶר מִי הִגִּיד לְךָ כִּי עֵירֹם אָתָּה
