Sha'arē ōrā

Post by Max S-R »

I've been looking at what I imagine is the frontispiece of some medieval book, and I can't make out the word in the top right sphere (middle of image). I've been looking at the "sefiroth" page on wikipedia, but it doesn't list this word, as far as I can tell.

My guess is מוּלָה, which according to Jastrow is 'strength' (Aramaic?). But there appears to be a schwa underneath the first letter, so then I thought maybe נְדוּלָה, but I can't find such a word. Can someone help?

Many thanks!

The dot to the bottom left of the Mem does not look like it belongs to the letter, so we can ignore it.

The word is מולה which is Hebrew for “circumcision”, spelled מולת in Exodus 4:26.

These are the ten sfirot of the Kabbalah. The one you’re asking about is גְּדוּלָה.

With such a blurry picture, what do you expect?

Since you knew, why didn’t you answer earlier?

Thanks, Jason. I should've thought of that.

Perhaps because I am not glued to the computer screen, especially when there is a war in Israel right now.
