Seow’s Handbook

Paul made me aware of Seow's handbook today, which was written by a few of his students and apparently provides a bunch of notes on his textbook and an answer key. I never knew such a thing had been published! So, I went ahead and ordered it from Amazon, along with a couple of other books (Ruth: A Handbook on the Hebrew Text by Robert Holmstedt and A Biblical Hebrew Reader: With an Outline Grammar by Takamitsu Muraoka). Have to wait for two weeks until it all arrives in Israel, but now I have something to look forward to.

I wonder what it would be like to work through Seow again just for fun. I studied from his grammar between 1999 and 2000, then we used Yerushalmi’s Maaseh deYosef Tsadika (מעשה דיוסף צדיקא) for our second year, along with translating Hosea, the Mesha Stele, and the Siloam Inscription. Holding my breath until I get the new books.

I wouldn't say it contains a bunch of notes. Sorry if I gave that impression.

No, I gathered that from the Amazon blurb, actually. So, I guess there aren’t as many notes as I initially thought. I’ve still got to wait a few days before the book will arrive, then I’ll be able to share my thoughts on it. I’m looking forward to it!

I’ve tried to find an affordable copy of this over the years but have had no luck. Any ideas?

Is this this book - or part thereof - you were looking for?

Ah, no. It’s literally got the full title that I mentioned before. I found a bibliographical citation of it on HUC’s website, but I’ve never found a downloadable or purchasable copy.

Here is a link to the bibliographical information of the book that I’m talking about, and there’s a preview on Google Books.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for you. I spend a lot of time poring over second-hand book catalogues and websites.
