Hi there! I'm George Athas, and I'm one of the three moderators of B-Hebrew. I first joined B-Hebrew in 1996 and became a moderator in 2000. I hold a BA (Hons) in Semitic Studies (Sydney), BD (Moore), DipMin (Moore), and PhD (Sydney). My doctoral dissertation was on the Tel Dan Inscription. Since 2006 I've been serving on the faculty of Moore Theological College in Sydney, Australia. I teach a range of subjects in the Old Testament department, including Hebrew. As the college's Dean of Research I also oversee the postgraduate program. On occasion I even lecture in Early Church history. I'm also a regular visiting scholar at George Whitefield College in Cape Town, South Africa, and I'm an ordained deacon in the Anglican Church.

In addition to Hebrew grammar, my main research interests are the books of Deuteronomy, Samuel, Zechariah, Daniel, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, the Persian Period, and Northwest Semitic inscriptions.

On a more personal level, I'm an Australian of Greek heritage, and married with two daughters. I'm an avid Formula 1 fan, enjoy a wide range of music (Latin jazz is top of the list), appreciate good coffee, and love to travel.
