Hello, I am a newbie here and an almost total newbie to learning Hebrew. At one time I had learned the alphabet, but I have since forgotten most of it. Yeah, that kind of newbie. :D

Welcome, Mike!

Check out the Beginner forum and Resources forum. There are a lot of recommendations for both free and paid online courses. Others can chime in with their favorites. Jason Hare has done a bunch of YouTube videos teaching elementary Hebrew that are free. Recommended.

Welcome to B–Hebrew! What are you doing to get yourself started?

To get started I am considering between Kutz/Josberger and Pratico/Pelt. I assume the differences are like the differences between Ford, Chevy, and Dodge; they will all get you to the same place if used as intended. Any experienced "drivers" of these books are welcome to lay out the nuances between the two. Or, a third or fourth option.
Thanks

I'd recommend Jason's (free!) YouTube course using Kutz/Josberger.

I just got "An Introduction to Biblical Hebrew Syntax" by Waltke and O'Connor. I don't know if it is good. I just got it today. You can look at it on Google books and see if you like it.

Waltke and O'Connor is a standard reference work. It is not a pedagogical grammar. I would call it an "advanced" grammar. It's quality is excellent. There is really no parallel to it. But for the beginning Hebrew student, it is overkill. The word "Introduction" in the title is a hilarious misnomer. But for the serious student of Hebrew, it is essential, but after you've had a couple years of Hebrew and can easily read the Hebrew text.

My opinion. :-)

When I saw the book and the title, I kind of laughed too. I see your point about it. You can still learn from any book on a subject especially because it has a lot of examples of everything that makes it easier to understand it.
