I was looking over some commentaries on Zechariah 13:7 and it led me to question the meaning of עמית. I’ve seen everything from “fellow,” “associate,” “counterpart,” to “equal” suggested as translations. I get the feel that it may indicate someone who has some of the same responsibilities that God has for His people but I’d like to get some feedback from the group.
Sincerely,

Re: Zechariah 13:7
The word עמית is used only 12 times in Tanakh, 11 of which are in the book of Leviticus. In those uses, it refers to fellow Israelites, of one’s people as opposed to those from other peoples.
