יסר Kal or piel?

Post by Kenneth Greifer »

Is the verb יסר in Psalm 94:10 and Proverbs 9:7 kal or piel? One book said kal and another said piel.

They are both qal participles. The samek lacks a dagesh, which is necessary for the piel.

Hope this helps.

Kirk,

I thought the participle in piel would have a מ in front of it.

You're correct, but these are standard, regular qal participles, not piel.

Hmm, rereading your comment, I think I may have misunderstood your point.

Just for the record, the regular (strong) piel participle would have both a mem before the first root letter, and a dagesh in the middle root letter. That's not the case in the two occurrences you cite.
