Unicode/XML Westminster Leningrad Codex - Chrome browser

Post by cvkimball »

The Unicode/XML Westminster Leningrad Codex at <http://www.tanach.us> no longer displays with the new Chrome browser, version 34. A problem report has been sent. No improvements are expected soon.

The site does display with Chrome version 33.0.1750.117 m, at least on Win 8.1. If you have this version and wish to continue with the Chrome browser, don't update. Unfortunately, even downloads of version 33 available on the web automatically update to version 34.

The Firefox browser is highly recommended.

The problem is a bug in Chrome described at https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issu ... 350923#c48. In summary,
the site will begin working with the next stable Chrome release in an estimated 2-3 weeks.

The issue, as stated in the subject of the post, is the parsing of the XLM format.

If you use the .html format delivered through the server.html access portal, everything appears to be good.

Perhaps a quick fix would be for someone at tanach.us to program the server to respond to the tanach.us request with the .html page. Just my thoughts with the recognition that this might not be possible nor feasible.

Mark Cain is correct .. the Server continues to operate correctly on the current Chrome. You can even add styling parameters as in

<http://www.tanach.us/Server.html?Ruth1: ... 1&t1=Title with blanks&trailinglabel=1>

See the <http://www.tanach.us/Pages/HTMLServerParameters.html> page for more information on the parameters.

As of this morning, Ubuntu 13.10 upgraded Google Chrome to Version 34.0.1847.132. And the problem is fixed! http://www.tanach.us/Tanach.xml displays properly again.

I forced an update on Chrome and the site is now working for me as well:

XP service pack 3
Chrome Version 34.0.1847.131 m (the old version of Chrome was Version 34.0.1847.116m)

Chrome has a huge market share for the users who visit my site. 66%+ of my users have some flavor of Chrome.
