who is doing what to whom? Lev. 12:2

Post by Isaac Fried »

We read there:
אִשָּׁה כִּי תַזְרִיעַ וְיָלְדָה זָכָר
KJV: "If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child"

Indeed, תזריע = אתה - זריע, is with the fore-attached (conjugated, or מְזוּוָג) PP אתה or את referring to the woman doing the act for herself.

Notice the affinity of the roots זרע, of which we have ZERA זֶרָע, 'seed', and צרע, of which we have the CARAAT צָרָעַת, 'leprosy?', of Lev. 13:2.

And, CARAAT = CARA-AT צרעת = צרע - את where the PP את AT, 'you', has the function of the English 'it', namely, CARAAT = 'it is the falling apart of the flesh.'

Think also of the צרעה CIRAH, 'wasp, hornet, insect' of Ex. 23:28.

Actually, the all knowing Google says on צרעת: "Leprosy is primarily a granulomatous disease", and hence possible the connection זרע - צרע, grain. If psoriasis, then it my refer to the scratching or the shedding of the scaly flakes on the skin.

Not to forget the dialectical אֶדְרָע of Ezra 4:23, whereby the arm is STRETCHED OUT like scattering seed. Related, methinks, is the דֵּרָאוֹן of Isa. 66:24, whereby disgrace, aversion is SCATTERED OFF of one like unwanted seed.

Yes. And not to forget the very pertinent שרע SARA, 'spread out, stretch out', as in Isaiah 28:20
כִּי קָצַר הַמַּצָּע מֵהִשְׂתָּרֵעַ וְהַמַּסֵּכָה צָרָה כְּהִתְכַּנֵּס
KJV: "For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it."
A זרוֹע, 'arm, hand' is certainly a שרוֹע spreading out.

And also ירע YARA, of which we have the יריעה, 'curtain, sheet, lamina', of Ex 26:2.

To דרא I would add the זרא 'loathe, abhor, detest, disgust, expel', of Nu. 11:20.

And what about ירא, 'fear'? Feelings and sensations are inherently difficult.
