We read there
וְעָשִׂיתָ כַפֹּרֶת זָהָב טָהוֹר אַמָּתַיִם וָחֵצִי אָרְכָּהּ וְאַמָּה וָחֵצִי רָחְבָּהּ ... וְנָתַתָּ אֶת הַכַּפֹּרֶת עַל הָאָרֹן מִלְמָעְלָה
where כַפֹּרֶת is from the root כפר KPR, a variant of the roots
גבר, הבר, חבר, כבר, קבר
גפר, חפר, כפר
cover, bury, surmount

Of interest: the post biblical קִבֹּרֶת (almost גִּבֹּרֶת or כִּבֹּרֶת) is 'biceps', the thick, humpy, part of the upper arm and leg.
