Please take note of the 12. Mainz International Colloquium on Ancient Hebrew (MICAH), 29th October to 1st November, 2015 at Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany.
The 12th MICAH 2015 meets as a joint conference with the Idea of Writing group (29th-30th Oct.).
MICAH is a biannual philological conference on Ancient Hebrew and adjacent languages. Topics cover grammar and linguistics of Ancient and Classical Hebrew (Epigraphic and Biblical Hebrew, Qumran and related Hebrew, and Ben Sira), as well as studies of older or contemporary adjacent Semitic languages and epigraphy, as for instance Ugaritic, Phoenician-Punic, Old and Imperial Aramaic or Early Syriac, Moabite and Edomite and the like in phonetics, lexic, morphology and syntax.
"Idea of Writing" is an annual meeting of palaeographers, grammatologists and calligraphers for all writing systems. The 2015 main topic "Long hand and short hand" covers script systems all over the world (as for instance Egyptian, Chinese, Maya, Luwian, Hangul and Semitic or Western Alphabetic) with special focus on the impact of fast and fluent versus slow, untrained or even clumsy scribal hand on style, shape, and layout.
