It looks like the author is trying to preserve the traditional understanding that the conjugations refer mainly to tense. To do that, he takes cherry-picked examples and applies tense based interpretations to the examples.
My objection is that when one takes the conjugations ins Gesampt that the tense based interpretation of the conjugations falls apart.
As far as translation is concerned, that’s a different question and one that I don’t address here.
