Question on יָשֵׂם in 1 Sam 2:20

Hi:
In 1 Sam 2:20 there's the word יָשֵׂם - my question is "where did the middle vowel go?". I thought, for biconsonantal verbs, that in the imperfect the middle vowel was present?

Hi Glenn,
I hope I'm getting you right.
You ask why is it ישם and not ישים.
ישם is the short form of the YQTL (imperfect).
(I think it is called in English "Jussive")
This form comes here because it is a blessing.
As: May God give you seed from this woman.

Thanxs David! You answered my question! As soon as you mentioned "Jussive" I looked it up and it appears the Jussive, in the imperfect, has short forms for III-Hey and biconsonantal verbs.
