After you raised the question, I decided that I should look up all the examples of היש in Tanakh. An electronic search turned up only 19 examples, some were followed by a name but not one of which was followed by a noun with a definite article prefix.

I don't care about the word order. The question was if יש can be used to check for existence in a specific location. So would היש בשדה הפרה work?
