What does Richard or Robert mean? This is not apparently a Hebrew name.MGWB wrote:Yes, thank you.Jason Hare wrote:Do you mean יִשְׁוִי from Numbers 26.44?MGWB wrote:Does the name הישוי mean "he resembles me," "he will justify me," "may he justify me," or something else?

What does it matter what it means? Almost never does the meaning of a person’s name have anything to do with what a person turns out in life, what he does and his personality.MGWB wrote:Yes, thank you.Jason Hare wrote: Do you mean יִשְׁוִי from Numbers 26.44?

Richard means "powerful ruler," and Robert means "bright," "shinning," or "famous."Jason Hare wrote: What does Richard or Robert mean? This is not apparently a Hebrew name.

There are two, possibly three, roots that this name could come from, and we are given no clue as to which of these possibilities is meant, so to assign which of the possibilities is the correct one is futile.
Karl W. Randolph.
