Verb form question

Post by sadiemarie »

I could really use some help with a form of the verb hālek. I'm struggling with why there is a "nun" in the form wənēləkāh (as in Isaiah 2:3). What form is this?

I tried to post this question just a few minutes ago, but I don't think it worked, so I'm trying again.

I would really appreciate any help! Thanks!

The נ is there to indicate that we're to read עלה as the first person plural "us" - effectively ונעלה can be broken down into the following:

ו - And
נ - Us
עלה - Let ascend

The most famous passage that I can bring forth to demonstrate this is Genesis 1:26:

ויאמר אלהים נעשה אדם בצלמנו - And God said, "Let us make man in our own image".

Hope that helps :)
