Syllabification of מַלְכָּה?

Post by zadok »

I wonder if someone can help me clarify how to divide this word into syllables?

מַלְכָּה

My confusion is around the sheva, i.e.

מַ | לְ | כָּה CV,CV,CVC or
מַלְ | כָּה CVC,CVC.

I guess I don't know if the sheva can count as a vowel for the purposes of syllabification?

This may be useful for you: http://www.hebrew4christians.com/Gramma ... _nach.html

The above would give the pronunciation of מַלְכָּה as mal-kah.

Although my advice is to always not worry about the Masoretic syllables - the consonants are the main thing to look at :)
