בְּרִיחַ BRIYAX, Ex. 26:26-29

Post by Isaac Fried »

We read there

NIV: Also make crossbars of acacia wood: five for the frames on one side of the tabernacle, five for those on the other side, and five for the frames on the west, at the far end of the tabernacle. The center crossbar is to extend from end to end at the middle of the frames. Overlay the frames with gold and make gold rings to hold the crossbars. Also overlay the crossbars with gold.
בְּרִיחַ = בר-היא-ח, 'latch, bolt, slider, runner, escaper', is from the root ברח BRX, a member of the family of roots

Further related to
all tied together by the common letter, nay, the uniliteral root, R, making the root refer to an aggregated material state of several bodies, or otherwise freedom of relative movement.
We will look at these roots in their close interconnectivity.

PRX is extensively used today for 'fly away', in close proximity to ברח BRX, 'escape', but in the תנ"ך it is limited to 'erupt, flare, sprout, bloom', as in Songs 6:11
NIV: "I went down to the grove of nut trees to look at the new growth in the valley, to see if the vines had budded or the pomegranates were in bloom"
Hence, אֶפְרוֹחַ EPROAX, 'chick', as in Deut. 22:6

NIV: "If you come across a bird’s nest beside the road, either in a tree or on the ground, and the mother is sitting on the young or on the eggs, do not take the mother with the young"
has more to do with 'sprout', than with 'fly'. Or, אֶפְרוֹחַ is a budding out פֶּרַח PERAX, 'flower'.
