The Jewish scribes of the Septuagint understood the Hebrew.
Not to forget: נפל --> σφάλλω

The variant פלה PLH, 'pick out, remove, separate, discriminate, differentiate' of בלה BLH is also of interest here. See Ex. 9:4
וְהִפְלָה יהוה בֵּין מִקְנֵה יִשְׂרָאֵל וּבֵין מִקְנֵה מִצְרָיִם וְלֹא יָמוּת מִכָּל לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל דָּבָר
NIV: But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt, so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die.

For פלא PLA look at Isaiah 28:29.

הפלה

I suspect the initial ה is a guttural preposition, ἐκ- (from out of) and the homologue
of ἐκπαγλέομαι "to be struck with amazement" from the Adjective, ἔκπαγλος "terrible, violent and signifies merely, marvellous, wondrous' and possibly related too ἀπαλλητός "marvelous" .

Psalm 118:23 - נפלאת [ἔκπαγλος]
Psalm 139:14 - נפליתי [ἐκπαγλέομαι]

The root form of the verb is ἐκπλήσσω, 'terrible, fearful' and poetically, marvellous, wondrous.

Isaiah 29:14 - להפליא [ἐκπλῆξαι]
Isaiah 21:4 - פלצות [ἔκπληξις] 'terror caused by misfortunes'

Here are more verbs of the roots בל BL and פל PL
אבל, 'grieve', בעל, 'rise, mount', בלע, 'swallow, enclose.'
אפל, 'cover for darkness', עפל, 'rise, mount' (see Nu. 14:44), פעל, 'produce', פלא 'separate category, extraordinary, out of the usual.'
