Thanks for this discussion, Jason. It is helping me get a handle on the jussive. Much appreciated. It does seem that often context is the determiner as to which should be understood, the jussive or imperative. At least when the forms are similar or the same.

Chris, I see now why the Unfolding Word grammar discussion may not have helped you. Apparently it is primarily aimed at beginners or early intermediate learners. So, it does not provide as much detail as we might like. Although I did find the examples under usage categories to be helpful.

Do you have access to Waltke and O'Connor's work on BH syntax? They have a fairly detailed discussion of the jussive.

I may be remembering wrongly, but I think scholars like Holmstedt and Cook argue for a SVO word order. It's an interestng question, to be sure. Certainly in some cases VSO works, but apparently not everywhere.

That's interesting about the XV pattern.

Hi Dewayne

No I don't.
but I think scholars like Holmstedt and Cook argue for a SVO word order.
Yes, I remember Holmstedt, but not Cook. All that is needed now is to read and be more sensitive to what is going on in the text, I usually only do this for when I select a piece to study, but not for casual reading.
